Cushion - Mudcloth Mustard
We cannot get enough of our vintage African mudcloth cushions. We love the earthy texture and striking prints of genuine mudcloth. With so many cheap and generic tribal print cushions available at the moment, it's important to make sure you get the real deal - primarily because it means you've supported the artisans who make these textiles, keeping ancient traditions alive, but also because real mudcloth is just so much nicer than any imitation. Trust us, it really is.
Mudcloth (or Bogolanfini) is handmade cotton fabric coloured with a range of natural dyes and soaked several times in fermented mud. It's an ancient process, dating back to the 12th century, but the finished product looks far from old-fashioned and is right at home in a contemporary setting.
Made from one large textile, each of our vintage black mudcloth cushions is unique, telling the story of its creator and of Muna, our talented refugee seamstress from Syria who’s transformed this one cloth into a beautiful cushion that you’ll treasure for years to come.
